Arabic Islamic Texts B

Course goals

1. Ability to correctly read and interpret a specialised Islamic text (CEFR level B2);
2. Ability to hold a conversation on specific topics in Standard Arabic (CEFR level A2).

Content

This course is an advanced MSA course. The majority of the classes will be spent reading and discussing Arabic texts on Islamic topics. These texts are covered in other courses in the Islam and Arabic BA programme but are in those courses solely discussed using English or Dutch-language secondary literature. Conversation skills are also covered in this course.

Students have two possible ways to include the course in their education: in the second year of the programme as part of an advanced track of courses; in the third year of the programme as an elective. As a result, the texts used for this course are always different than in previous years. For parts of the course, the instructor may temporarily separate the two categories of students and give separate assignments appropriate to their knowledge level.
