Course goals
INFOCHCI Colloquium HCI is a 3 EC mandatory course in the HCIM program.
A student who successfully attends the course:
- can clearly present his or her research work to an audience of junior and senior researchers in information science
- can orally contribute to the scientific discussion after the presentation of a topic in information science
- has had the practice of moderating a scientific presentation by a fellow student including thorough reading of Part 1, writing an abstract and resume, and moderating the Q&A and discussion afterwards
- has gained a broad perspective on the HCI work field
- has constructed a personal (scholar) portfolio
The 3 EC total (i.e. 84 hours) for INFOCHCI Colloquium HCI is earned via:
Part 1. attendance of 12 colloquium sessions (24 hours)
Part 2. thesis project presentation (24 hours)
- preparation: 23 hours
- presentation: 1 hour
- self-study: 8 hours
- portfolio construction: 28 hours
Your own presentation should take place 2-3 months after part 1 has been finished and marked as sufficient.
When you are ready to schedule your own thesis presentation, send a request to the HCI Colloquium coordinator.
This request should include the names of your supervisors, a work title and an abstract.
The personal portfolio can be constructed at any time during the graduation project.
Moreover, it can be sent to the HCI Colloquium coordinator to receive feedback and improve on it.
The HCI colloquium coordinator will give feedback on both their presentation and the portfolio.
Using this feedback, students can improve their presentation and portfolio and reflect on their competencies.
It sometimes is possible to obtain colloquium hours for extracurricular events.
Check with the coordinator whether the event you have in mind qualifies and to which extent.
The requirements listed here apply to the students who joined the HCIM program from 2023-2024 onwards.
All other students complete INFOCHCI as defined in the HICM annex of the earlier OER.
Content
The colloquium consists of regular meetings in which students view presentations on HCI-related topics from other students, staff members and professionals.
Students will also present their own graduation project within the HCIM colloquium series.
Moreover, students construct a personal portfolio, which complements their CV and presentation.
To obtain the required competencies for this, they will conduct a self-study.
A colloquium meeting typically lasts two hours and consists of two presentations with room for follow-up discussions.
The meetings are scheduled year round, in general on Monday morning..
The INFOCHCI Brightspace page shows the scheduled talks as far as they are planned.
