Course goals
- to learn about scientific research in general
- to learn about the most common research methods used in Game and Media Technology
- to increase practice with working in teams
- to increase practice with scientific reporting
- to learn more about the Game and Media Technology master program
- to get to know your fellow GMTE students
Assessment
There will be a total of six group assignments.
For each assignment you get a group grade (we reserve the right to decrease the grade of individuals though in case we observe a lack of commitment; further exceptions may apply and will be announced in the course in time).
Your final grade will be the average of these six grades.
To pass this course, these criteria must be full filled:
- students must attend each lecture. If participations for reasons is not possible the students writes a 1-page summary of the slides used, and submit it within three days after the lecture.
- students must participate in all six assignments/projects.
If you do not partake in an assignment, you will have to do a replacement project, which will be announced near the end of the course.
If you score a 4 or lower for any project, you will have to do a replacement project.
If you score a 4 or lower for two or more projects, you fail the course.
To qualify for a repair of the final result the mark needs to be at least a 4, or “AANV”.
Prerequisites
This is a mandatory course for GMTE students, who should take it in their first year.
Content
The course takes a scientific view on game and media technology by discussing, among other things, fundamental and experimental research, user studies, and general scientific approaches.
Course form
- lectures (mandatory attendance, or lecture slides wrap-up instead; see the assessment information)
- projects, done in small groups (six assignments, team work, mandatory participation).
