Course goals

(1) Acquisition of beginners' knowledge of Modern Welsh
(2) Knowledge of the grammar, idioms and vocabulary of Modern Welsh
(3) to actively speak Modern Welsh
(4) to be able to formulate conversation in Modern Welsh
(5) to be able to write short texts in Modern Welsh

Content

This course teaches Modern Welsh, which is still spoken in Wales today. The structures of the language will be taught in order to give the student an initial level of comprehension in speaking and writing the language.
Through sessions in the language laboratory and pronunciation drills, the student will be familiarised with the sounds of Modern Welsh and will learn to conduct and comprehend conversation.
Having successfully finished the course, the student will be able to write Modern Welsh and be able to understand and carry out elementary conversation.

Please note: the time slot shown here is not yet final and may still be modified until the 3rd Wednesday in September. 

This course has priority rules and a waiting list. Your enrolment is guaranteed if you are:

• a student in the BA Celtic Languages and Culture.
• a student in the minor Celtic Languages and Culture.
• an exchange student and meet the course’s entry requirements.

In all other situations, you will be placed on a waiting list if you enrol in this course. For any remaining slots in the course, lots are drawn among the students on the waiting list.
