Research Lab II: Designing Gender Research

Course goals

After completion of this course, the student will have learnt to:

A) fully develop a research plan;
B) formulate a topic and a research question connected to it;
C) use certain methodologies and theories in relation to their specific research project;
D) critically reflect on their own as well as their peers' research ideas;
E) find academic sources and use library tools.

Content

Only open to students of the MA programme in Gender Studies.

The Research Lab II prepares the students to build the foundation for the main tasks they will have to complete in order to graduate - i.e., their MA thesis - while continuing to develop academic skills and reflecting on how to apply them out of an academic setting. Consecutive sessions will be devoted to issues like thesis topic, research question, theories and methods, thesis proposal, finding/using reliable academic sources, and bridging academic knowledge with extra-academic work. At the same time, students will be gradually designing and elaborating on the proper content of their research as well as reflect on their study trajectory and the meaning of Gender Studies research.
