Curating Arts & Society

Open to students enrolled in the MA programme Arts and Society. Students from the MA programme Educatie en Communicatie: Kunstgeschiedenis (KUEM) need to contact the course coordinator before enrolling. Only this way participation can be granted.

This course brings perspectives explored in the courses Thinking Arts & Society and Exploring Arts & Society to bear on current issues and debates taking place within contemporary society and the role of the arts within these debates. In teams, students will develop a curatorial project around a chosen issue that is relevant for contemporary society. The role of arts curating provides a discursive, sometimes critical and pedagogical framing of current issues and debates. The research objective of this course is to further explore the role of the arts in contemporary society by focusing on the role of curating within various societal domains. In this course, the insight in contemporary curatorial practices will be gained by developing a curatorial project.
 
The assessment of this course is based on a portfolio that includes smaller individual and collective assignments like writing a curatorial concept, presenting a curatorial project and other reflections.
