Course goals

After having completed this course students will

• have a better understanding of different qualitative research methods within the field of film and television studies;
• be able to design a research plan and write a research proposal;
• be able to reflect on their role as researcher, the research process, and choices made, specifically on the relationship between academic debate – research question/argument – theory – method.

Content

This core course renews and complements students’ knowledge of research methods within the field of film and television studies. Students will be given an overview of selected methods and practice with each of those methods in-class. Subsequently, students use their own research interest to select and reflect on an appropriate method and develop a coherent and feasible research plan.
