- have learned how to write a full-fledged research proposal;
- have practiced presenting their work to peers.
Content
In this course, we focus on the further development of research skills and other competences necessary to develop a sound, scientifically relevant and feasible MA thesis research proposal. Themes covered include formulating a useful topic and a research question, efficiently searching for, selecting and processing scholarly literature, clearly structuring and phrasing a research proposal, and choosing and justifying an appropriate research method. Step by step, you work towards a fully developed research proposal for the MA thesis that you will write in the third teaching period. You will receive feedback from the tutor on interim reports but will also discuss your own work-in-progress and that of others with your fellow students. In the course of the process, it will be decided which lecturer will be your supervisor and who will act as second reader/evaluator of your thesis. At the end of the course, you have to defend your then completed research proposal in an interview with your supervisor and the second reader/evaluator. The goal of that conversation is to give you the green light to begin conducting the research and writing the thesis.
