- Formulating research questions
- Defining and describing the methodology of your research
- Designing and developing your individual research trajectory and writing a research proposal for the MA thesis
Content
This course is one of the mandatory courses for students in MA Arts & Society and MA Contemporary Theatre, Dance, and Dramaturgy. After the introduction to various methods in the first block, we will focus on developing your own research project in preparation of your MA Thesis. There are joint sessions between the 2 MAs, as well as sessions exclusive to each MA.
In this course, you will develop your individual research trajectory and prepare for the MA thesis. You will work on your individual research plan, with feedback from your peers, teacher, and thesis supervisor. Through small assignments and presentations, the aim is to work gradually towards a Thesis Plan ready to submit to your supervisor and second reader.
During the course, you will learn how to locate your own research interests in existing debates and to formulate a research question that both clearly relates to and contributes to already existing discourse. Moreover, you will learn how to define and to describe the methodology of your research: what concrete steps are needed to answer your question? And is this feasible taking into consideration such things as: time, availability of source materials, previous knowledge, and experience?
