Content
This multidisciplinary research seminar is designed to provide students with an awareness of the nature, purpose, and functioning of salient production systems (“institutions”) of cultural commodities/objects and services/performances. Our particular focus is on those institutions that interact with sound- or music-related cultural products. The seminar strives to provide members with a cutting-edge, dynamic matrix that will allow them to comprehend cultural production from a transdisciplinary perspective within the context of the humanities in general and their chosen field of study in particular. To this end, the course begins by introducing different theoretical frameworks that will be tested and refined by jointly examining selected case studies.
The ability to read music notation is not required.
