Course goals

Content

Only open to students in the RMA Gender Studies and GEMMA.

This course has the aim of familiarizing students with different methods and methodologies in the field of gender and postcolonial studies. Students will learn more about the background and implications of different methodologies and will also learn how to select the most suitable method for a given research project.

This course explores feminist methodologies as critical frameworks for knowledge production across various disciplines. It examines how feminist approaches challenge traditional research paradigms by emphasizing intersectionality, power dynamics, and the situated nature of knowledge. Students will engage with diverse methods, such as qualitative, participatory, or decolonial approaches, to investigate how gender, race, class, and sexuality shape lived experiences and societal structures. The course fosters critical reflection on ethical research practices, advocacy, and activism within academic and community contexts. By the end of the course, students will develop tools to design and critique research projects through a feminist lens.

Additional information

Seminars might include guest lecturers who will briefly outline and present their own research project and methodological choices.
