Course goals

The objective of the student seminar is to acquaint the participants with both a research-style setting as well as elementary presentation techniques.

Students will develop the following skills:

find and study literature on a prescribed topic from theoretical physics and show understanding thereof to a group of peers
work in a group to prepare a cohesive written report aimed at peers on a given topic
give an oral presentation on the topic in English to peers and supervising staff
give meaningful and constructive feedback on the topic to peers
collaborate and discuss with peers

Content

Students will work together in small groups led by an Institute of Theoretical Physics staff member, who supervises the preparation of a written and oral presentation on a research topic. Both forms of presentation are intended to communicate about the topic to peers. In addition, the students will engage in peer evaluation of the presented material.

Instructional format
Students sharpen their skills in independently reading and understanding the literature. They must be able to summarize the literature in writing and an oral presentation and provide feedback to their peers.
