Content

The course is aimed at students with little knowledge of the historical context, emergence, and development of criminological theory. During the course the focus will be on discussing key criminological theories and perspectives, their past and contemporary implications, and their critical limitations. The main objective is to teach students how to address theoretical claims in a critical and reflective manner, and to deploy concepts in the development of their own work. The course considers such explanations of crime stemming from biological, psychological, cultural, social learning, social ecological, and conflict and radical perspectives. It is highly recommended that students follow this course after having gained knowledge from the Minor course ‘Introduction to Criminology’.
