Course goals
- the student can analyse and evaluate the interplay between EU competition law and competition economics and how EU authorities and courts deal with this interplay;
- the student can apply and analyse legal concepts, economic theories, and basic empirical tools of competition policy, related to complex competition problems and cases;
- the student can advise governments, competition authorities, courts or private parties on the implications of particular forms of competition policy and competition cases;
- the student can participate constructively in a discussion of competition cases, problems and concepts.
Content
The goal of Advanced EU Competition Law & Economics II (Competition i) is to enable the student to analyse and judge complex problems, theoretical questions, and practical cases in the field of EU competition law and policy. Both legal aspects and economic analysis and principles are covered in a comprehensive and integrated manner, which is key to understanding competition law. Competition II takes the Competition I as a basis, and offers more advanced material and special thematic topics in EU competition law and competition economics.
The subject matter of competition I constitutes required prior knowledge for this course.
Place of the course within the curriculum:
- Elective course in the master Law and Economics - students choose between the course Competition II (RGMUIER049) and Regulation II (RGMUIER050) within the programme.
