Course goals
After this course:
- The students can quickly obtain an overview and then expand their knowledge of the dynamics of criminal law in an international and European context, including the intertwined nature of human rights regimes and the relevance for the domestic constitutional dimension;
- The students can conduct legal research, independently and in collaboration with others, that meets high level academic requirements, on course related topics at the intersection of criminal justice, human rights and international/European Law;
- The students can present a research design and a research study in an understandable manner, in both written and oral form, explaining research choices, responding to critique, and giving and intergrating peerfeedback throughout the research process;
- The students know, understand and comply with the requirements of scientific integrity and academic responsibility both in terms of the process of producing academic work and outputs;
- The students are able to reflect on their own academic performance, including their contribution to collaboration and the research process.
Content
The focus of this course is on dynamics of criminal and related human rights law in the European and international context, the central issue being the legal intertwining of the national, European and international legal orders. The format is that of lectures and supervised meetings (tutorials) where the teachers and students discuss the students’ work and where they present their research.
