Course goals

After this course:
 
  • The student can reflect on their own professional functioning by setting personal goals with regard to teamwork and evaluate what everyone’s role was in the teamwork and whether everyone contributed in a good manner to the end result as a group.
  • The student has in-depth knowledge and understanding of a number of subareas of European Criminal Justice.
  • The student has thorough knowledge and understanding of the interaction between European and national law in the area of criminal justice.
  • The student understands the developments in European Criminal Justice in relation to the socio-economic and political-social contexts in which European criminal law functions, and can take into account these contexts in the analysis of issues of European Criminal Justice.
  • The student can independently acquire in-depth knowledge and understanding of a European Criminal Justice problem or issue in a short period of time, among other things with a view to their professional performance in the employment market.
  • The student can independently acquire existing academic knowledge in a sound ethical and methodological manner, can value them, to critically reflect on them, and to systematically process and organise them.
  • The student can communicate in English knowledge, ideas, solutions and conclusions, as well as the arguments, motives and considerations underlying them, to a public of specialists and non-specialists in an understandable, structured, correct and convincing manner;

 

Content

The research module is part of the OST trajectory. It takes place in period 3 and it is an entry requirement for writing your Master thesis. See Rules and Regulations 2026-2027 and Blackboard for further regulations. Earlier in the academic year you must communicate in which discipline you want to graduate. Information about this will be communicated in a timely manner. A thesis supervisor will be assigned by the thesis coordinator of the Master by means of a completed thesis form.  In the research module students will, in addition to a research plan, provide feedback on the thesis structure of other students and give a presentation about their own structure. Attendance is mandatory. The research module is completed with an approved research plan.
