Course goals
The student obviously plays the leading role! The student is in principle self-directing, but he/she can use the tutoring community for information and advice.
In concrete terms this means that the student:
- makes sure he/she is informed about the program structure of the Bachelor's degree program, both in terms of the major compulsory and the elective course, and the structure of the study paths and how they link to the different (professional) master's programs.
In practice, this involves visiting tutor group meetings and other relevant information meetings, reading the emails from the student tutor, tutor and tutor coordinator, and monitoring the announcements on the Blackboard site and the information from the Digital Study Guide (www.students.uu.nl/beta/scheikunde ) and Blackboard.
- is responsible for his/her study results. In the first year a student may expect that the student mentor and the tutor to actively address him/her with regards to his/her study results. In the following years, the student is expected to take the initiative to discuss study results with the tutor and/or study advisor when necessary.
- actively gathers information about options outside of their own program. During this search, the student can call upon study advisors within and outside the faculty for information on study opportunities within the Netherlands, and upon the International Officer for study opportunities abroad.
- is willing to reflect on the goals and expectations, qualities, talents, competencies and preferences in relation to the final objectives of the program, professional behavior, the arrangements and expectations of study progress, and the options and opportunities and limitations of the labor market.
Content
- The student can reflect critically on his or her own behavior in a professional/study context, in order to improve his/her (or the team’s) progress
- The student is capable of making well-considered choices when it comes to electives, further studies and profession
In year 1, each period the student mentor will organize a group meeting, the docent tutor extends an open invitation for an individual meeting, and the tutor coordinator will organize a general ‘studieloopbaan’ meeting to elaborate on the relevant information in the digital study guide for that period.
Year 1 - active participation requirements:
- The first two studieloopbaan meetings in year 1 are mandatory, because you will miss to much information at the start of your studies if you miss them.
- The group meetings with your student mentor in year 1 are all mandatory.
- The individual meetings with the docent tutor are not mandatory, except for the reflection and planning meeting in period 4.
Feedback, evaluation and assessment in year 1:
- In June of the first year each student is expected to fill out a planning and reflection form (see appendix) and send it to the student mentor for discussion in the last group meeting.
- Students then send their planning and reflection form to their docent tutor in period 4, will receive an invitation of the docent tutor to discuss the planning and reflection form individually.
In year 2 and 3, students can still call on their docent tutor to discuss his/her choices concerning electives, further studies and profession, and at relevant times studieloopbaan meetings will be planned to elaborate on study choices and other opportunities that the bachelor program offers.
