Course goals

The goal of this course and the tutoring community is to help every student to develop their academic attitude and behavior in terms of study approach, academic skills and critical reflection, defining their personal study path, and advance their professionalism and orientation on the future.

In this regard, the student plays the leading role! They are in principle self-directing, but can use the Tutoring Community for information and advice.

This course contributes to the final bachelor terms concerning academic attitude and personal development:

• Students can critically reflect on both their own and other’s work and behavior in professional context, in an effort to improve their own and each other’s contribution.
• Students can make a well-informed & considered choice regarding their further education and/or carreer. 

Content

The course ‘Studieloopbaanbegeleiding’ (or “Study and Carreer Coaching”), which includes the Tutoring Community, is meant to support the student throughout their bachelor program. It is mainly involved in the learning path “Academic Skills”. 

At the start of the first academic year, all students are assigned a studentmentor and a teacher tutor.

In year 1, each period:

• The tutor coordinator will organize a general Studieloopbaanbegeleiding (SLB) meeting to provide relevant information regarding the bachelor program for that period.
• The studentmentor will organize a group meeting to check-in with their students, discuss any questions they might have and possibly perform a relevant exercise with regards to study planning, critical reflection or other relevant academic skills.
• The teacher tutor is available for an individual meeting, at the request of the student.

In year 2 and 3:

• The tutor coordinator will organize meetings/events to discuss topics relevant for students in the later stages of their study, such as going abroad, changes in the curriculum, the bachelor thesis & follow-up study and carreer choices.
• No further meetings with the studentmentor or teacher tutor are organized. However, students are encouraged to still call on them to personally discuss topics relevant for them, such as study trajectory, (external) locations to perform their thesis project, master choice and their future career
