Comparative Morphosyntax

Course goals

The course aims to acquaint the students with some of the core principles in the morphology and syntax (and its interfaces with semantics and phonology) of natural languages, helping us understand grammar as part of the language faculty. The student learns how to apply these principles in analyzing diverse material from a range of languages (comparing them with Dutch), using different empirical sources (among which corpora, databases, grammars, etc).
The course has also a practical aim: providing the student with essential academic writing skills.

If you have already completed one of these courses, you may not take Comparative Morphosyntax due to too much overlap in content.
