Research in Context

Course goals

1. formulate research questions
2. narrow down a topic and translate concepts into concrete search terms
3. find academic sources using search engines and assess and communicate the relevance of those findings
4. use appropriate referencing formats (with tools such as Zotero)
5. plan and structure the research and writing process
6. write texts that reflect on the basics of academic writing regarding structure (paragraphs, line of argument) and conventional language usage (grammar, style, formatting, vocabulary)
7. explain the relationship between the way research questions are asked and answers are reported in different academic fields
8. demonstrate critical reading skills
9. give feedback on peers’ work
10. present research findings orally
11. reflect on ethical dilemmas in academic research (choice of subject, datacollection, handling of findings, reporting conclusions, giving credits)
