Content

This course provides an overview of theory and research on normative child development, from conception until (but not including) adolescence. We will address how biological, psychological, and environmental factors intersect and contribute to domains of children’s normative development, such as physical and brain development, language, cognition, emotion, and relationships with parents and peers. In class activities, students will apply this knowledge to elaborate on specific cases (such as the development of individuals) and to design new studies that test unresolved research questions. In the writing assignment and its presentation, students will use this knowledge to critically appraise and update existing theories.
